Metropolitan Research Institute prepared a study on “Creative cities – good practices” for Kőszeg (Western Hungary), in which international experience and its local applicability were explored.
MRI staff prepared a study on “Creative cities – good practices” in the autumn of 2015. A large scale development process had been launched in Kőszeg under the framework of the KRAFT Project, promoting creative urban and sustainable rural development in Hungary. The was to reposition Kőszeg among the Hungarian and European cities, and identify the city’s untapped potential. In the study we reviewed and summarized the experience of European cities that can serve as example for Kőszeg. Besides the creative development strategies, specific challenges were identified in the selected cities (Eindhoven, Reggio Emilia, Szczecin), and the methods that allowed them to capitalize on their potential. Creative city development models focusing on traditional-cultural and economic development were presented, as well as the mechanisms which led to the practical realization of creative city concepts.
